Just the Recipe. Grandma’s Sugar Cookies. This recipe is the cookie recipe used by two generations of Grandma’s making cookies with the grandkids in our family.

Servings – 24 Calories – 130 each plain Equipment – baking sheet, large mixing bowl, fork and rubber spatula. Measuring cups and spoons.

  • 1 C granulated Sugar
  • 1 C Shortening (grandma used Crisco from the can)
  • 1 Egg, large, beaten
  • 1 t Vanilla extract
  • 2 C all purpose Flour
  • 1/2 t baking soda
  • 1/2 t Cream of Tartar

    ~

In large mixing bowl, mix the sugar ad shortening. Add the beaten egg. Once incorporated, add the vanilla. In another smaller bowl, mix the dry ingredients together. Add the dry ingredients to the large bowl of wet ingredients, combine. Chill the dough at least two hours -up to 24 hours, then form into balls and bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. As with most sugar cookies, remove from oven right when you see the cookies barely begin to turn golden. Sugar cookies often will go from maybe done to crispy overdone in a minute or two.

Many decorating options. You can roll the balls in colored sugar before you set onto the baking sheet. You can decorate the cookies after with royal icing, buttercream, sprinkles…

Bon Appetit!
