Family recipe from my Grandmother. Mid 20th Century recipe. Savory dressing to be served alongside the main protein entrée. This sausage dressing recipe has very little onion for those who are sensitive. This dish is small, perfect for an intimate event. Very easy preparation and quick enough to prepare often along side supper.
Servings: 4 Calories: 195 Equipment: Sauté pan, baking pan, wooden spatula, knife.
Oven: 350 degrees.
-1/2 C seasoned pork Sausage.
-1/2 C Apple, chopped
-1 t yellow Onion, minced
-1/4 t each salt and pepper
-1/2 C hot Water
-1/2 C seasoned Bread Crumbs
-1/2 C butter Cracker crumbs (Ritz or similar)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a medium sauté pan with non stick oil. Cook the sausage, crumbling with the wooden spatula as it cook, on medium heat. Do not drain any oil. Add the chopped apples to the sausage, and the onion. Allow to cook for about five minutes to soften the apple and onion, stirring occasionally. Turn the heat off the pan and mix in the salt and pepper, breadcrumbs, crackers and the water. Mix gently. Place the mixture into a small baking pan and bake for 30 minutes. Serve warm. OK in the fridge for up to three days after cooking.
Bon Appetit.
